He married "Ruth" Mae Guthrie Lawhon December 3, 1942 in Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas. She was born June 24, 1905 in Craighead County, Black Oak, Arkansas, the daughter of Andrew J. and Mollie Guthrie, and died May 22, 1996 in Garland County, Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. After their deaths both "Frank" Brooks Harper and his wife "Ruth" Mae Guthrie Lawhon Harper were cremated and their ashes are buried beside each other in the Harper burial site at Mount Zion Cemetery in Pemiscot County, Steele, Missouri. Barkeley of the 89th Division, who died on a secret scouting expedition behind German lines during the Meuse- Argonne Battle of World War I. Among famous units trained here were the 45th and 90th Infantry Divisions and the 11th and 12th Armored. A medical replacement training center, the largest in the country, was also established here, with 15 battalions. In May, 1942, the Medical Administrative Corps Officer Candidate School was activated and graduated about 12,500 candidates. Camp Barkeley was located a few miles south of Abilene, Texas. While "Frank" Brooks Harper was stationed at Camp Barkeley he married "Ruth" Mae Guthrie Lawhon on December 3, 1942 at the Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas. Dr. J. O. Haynes officiated the wedding ceremony of "Frank" Brooks Harper and "Ruth" Mae Guthrie Lawhon Harper. On February 12, 1942, the War Department issued an order for the acquisition of land near Durham, North Carolina, to be used as a training and cantonment facility during World War II. Eventually, the Army acquired 40,384.39 acres. As it turned out, Camp Butner was only used for training exercises during a short span of 18 months, from early 1942 to June of 1943. The units who trained at Camp Butner included the 78th, or “Lightning” division, the 89th, and 4th Infantry as well as some artillery and engineering units. The installation was also used as a redeployment center, and was home to one of the Army’s largest general and convalescent hospitals. The site included facilities for ammunition storage as well. "Frank" Brooks Harper left WWII as a major in the medical administrative corps. He is actually the grandson of "Ruth" Mae Guthrie Lawhon Harper through her son Elbert C. Lawhon, Jr. who was the son she had with her first husband, Elbert C. Lawhon, Sr.. William Brooks (Brooksey) Harper was born September 1, 1943. He married Sharon Denise Harper who was born on October 11, 1953.
